Vanishing Point (New Order cover)

by Fermion

/

about

Hot on the heels of the first EP “We Are Nowhere”, Fermion are back with a new single, this time covering one of their favorite bands of all time, New Order. It’s only fitting the two would pick this track; the original has a certain wistfulness and melancholy set to the beat of a bass driven dance song that encompassed classic their guitar sounds as well.

Eric and Augustine’s take on it pitches the original speed down just a little and gives it a retro-modern twist while keeping the song fully intact. There’s a certain dark dreamy element to it as well with lots of atmosphere, which is a trademark of Fermion’s sound. Eric’s vocals are a bit like Bernard Sumner’s ghost; raw, ethereal, and inviting, and their version pays great homage to arguably one of the greatest acts of all time.

lyrics

Grow up, children, don't you suffer
At the hands of one another
If you like a sleeping demon
Listen, can you hear him weeping?
Tears of joy and tears of sorrow
He buys love to sell tomorrow

My life ain't no holiday
I've been through the point of no return
I've seen what a man can do
I've seen all the hate of a woman too

Feel your heartbeat, lose the rhythm
He can't touch the world we live in
Life is short but love is strong
There lies a hope that I have found
And if you try, you'll find it too
Remember why I'm telling you

My life ain't no holiday
I've been through the point of no return
I've seen what a man can do
I've seen all the hate of a woman too

And they gave him away
Like in "Whistle Down the Wind"
By the look on his face
He never gave in
